It is true! If you have already heard the rumor that I actually rode all the way to Mount Washington but did not ride up the AutoRoad, it is in fact true. Let me explain.
The road is tiny and there are areas where there is a cliff right beside the road. Riding up the AutoRoad to the summit was on my friend Mike Fritz’s bucket list. It was not on mine and I did in fact not ride up because
- I am afraid of heights
- I am really afraid of heights
- I really do not like heights!
But, I did plan the route to Mount Washington to go through the Vermont and Stowe mountain roads. So that ride through Vermont and the ride up to Mount Washington was awesome. Pictures and video of the ride is coming. But for now, and for my friend Mike’s mother, here are the highlights of his ride up and down the mountain.
Awesome video! Peter, I share your fear of heights. Years ago I drove up there. I had seen so many cars with the Mt. Washington stickers I figured it would be a cake walk. Ha ha ha the joke was on me. At each switchback the boys would go to the mountai. Side of the car saying “we’re going to die!” We didn’t, but I was queazy by turns and white-nuckled above the tree line. Oddly, down was much less stressful than up.
What a great trip!
Thanks for sharing.
